Privacy should be clear, not mysterious.
This policy explains how setem collects, uses, shares, retains, and deletes information when you use our app, website, and related services.
1. Accounts, profiles, and the people they represent
setem supports both self-managed and friend-managed dating profiles. An account holder may manage more than one profile. This means the account holder using setem is not always the person pictured or described in a dating profile. A friend-managed profile should be created only with that person’s clear permission. The managing account can edit the profile and may take actions for it, including discovery, likes, passes, matches, and messages.
2. Information you provide
We may collect account details such as username, email address, authentication and verification status, push-notification token, and support communications. Profile information may include name, age, gender, dating preferences, interests, selected dating location, photographs, the manager’s name and relationship to the person, friend reviews, stories, and other profile content. We also process invite links, approvals, likes, passes, matches, reactions, conversations, and messages created through setem.
3. Location, photos, devices, and diagnostics
When you search for and select a dating location, setem may store the selected place, city or general area, latitude, longitude, and a geographic index used to calculate nearby discovery results. Other users are shown a general location or distance—not the stored coordinates. setem does not currently require continuous or background location tracking.
If you choose to upload a photograph, the app requests access to the photos you select, processes the image for use in a profile, and stores the uploaded version. Our service providers may also process device and network information such as IP address, device or app version, timestamps, notification-delivery information, diagnostic data, and security logs.
4. How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts; create, manage, and display profiles; deliver compatible and nearby discovery results; support friend vouches and approvals; enable reactions, matching, and messaging; send verification emails and optional service notifications; provide support; prevent abuse; enforce our terms; maintain and improve reliability; and comply with law.
5. Who can see or control information
Active dating profiles are designed to be seen by compatible setem users and may display profile photos, first name, age, general location or distance, interests, a friend’s name or relationship, friend review, story, and related profile content. A person managing a friend’s profile can access and control that profile’s activity. Matches and conversation participants—and the account holders managing the profiles in that conversation—may see messages and related conversation information. Private vouch links should be shared only with the intended reviewer.
6. Service providers and sharing
We use vendors that help operate setem, including Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, databases, file storage, and backend infrastructure; Google Places for location search; and Expo and the applicable Apple or Google notification service for push-notification delivery. These providers process information for us under their own contractual and security obligations. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the service, or as part of a business transaction with appropriate safeguards.
setem does not sell personal information or use it for third-party behavioral advertising.
7. Retention and deletion
We keep information while an account or profile is active and as reasonably needed to provide setem. After a verified deletion request, we delete or de-identify information controlled solely by the requesting account, including its account record, managed profiles, stored photos, decisions, and related activity, unless limited retention is necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, enforcement, or legal compliance.
Some content involves other people. For example, a vouch submitted to another person, or a message already delivered in a shared conversation, may remain where reasonably necessary to preserve the other participant’s account history, safety, or the integrity of the conversation. We may remove the deleted account’s identifying information or otherwise de-identify the retained record. Backup copies may persist temporarily until routine backup cycles complete.
8. Your choices and rights
You may update profile information in the app, remove individual profile photos, delete a managed profile, withdraw optional photo or notification permissions in device settings, request access or correction, object to certain processing, or request account and data deletion. Rights vary by location. Start a deletion request on our account deletion page or email privacy@setem.app.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect information, including authenticated access and managed cloud infrastructure. No service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your password and private invite links confidential.
10. Age eligibility
setem is intended only for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information to setem.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as setem evolves. Material changes will be communicated through the service or by another appropriate method. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to privacy@setem.app.
