Here’s how setem’s friend-assisted approach to dating works.
What is setem?
setem is a friend-assisted dating app built around trusted context. You can create your own dating profile and invite a friend to write a vouch, or—with a friend’s clear permission—create and manage a dating profile for them.
What is a friend review?
It is a written, personal introduction from someone who knows the person well: their green flags, personality, and even their awkward texting habits. It is not a numerical rating, identity verification, or background check. Reviews should be truthful, respectful, and based on real experience.
Who controls a profile?
Each profile is either self-managed or friend-managed. The account holder managing a profile can edit its details and, depending on the available features, act for that profile in discovery, matching, and conversations. A self-managed user can invite a friend to submit a vouch and approve it before publication. A friend-managed profile must be created only with the profiled person’s knowledge and permission.
What does “friend-assisted” mean in practice?
A trusted friend can do more than write an introduction. When they manage a profile, they may help present the person, review nearby profiles, make matching decisions, and help move a match toward a real introduction. People using setem should understand that activity on a friend-managed profile may be performed by its manager rather than directly by the person shown.
How does discovery work?
Discovery considers profile compatibility and distance from the dating location deliberately searched for and selected for that profile. setem stores the selected place and its coordinates to calculate nearby results; it does not currently require continuous background location tracking. Profiles managed by the same setem account are excluded from one another.
Does setem perform background checks?
No. A friend review adds personal context, but it is not identity verification, a background check, or a guarantee of someone’s conduct. Use good judgment, protect personal information, and meet in a public place.
How do I report a problem?
Email support@setem.app with your account email and a clear description. Do not send your password or other highly sensitive information.
How do I delete my account?
Visit our account deletion page to start a request. You may also use the account-deletion option provided in the app when available.
